Location & Setting
Mandarin Oriental, Muscat sits in the Shatti Al-Qurum area, one of the most prestigious neighbourhoods in Muscat. It occupies a prime beachfront site, with views of the Gulf of Oman on one side and the dramatic Hajar Mountains on the other. Its location offers easy access to Muscat’s cultural highlights including the Royal Opera House, Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Mutrah Souq, and other landmarks of city heritage.
Design & Character
The interior design has been realised by Xavier Cartron. The décor is a thoughtful blend of local Omani craftsmanship and elegant contemporary luxury. Elements such as traditional lanterns, patterns inspired by the Omani khanjar dagger, and motifs drawn from Omani heritage (for example the “kuma”, the traditional hat) are woven into finishes, headboards, lighting, and furniture, producing a warm, inviting yet refined ambience. Rooms generally offer high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, marble bathrooms, balconies or terraces, and premium fixtures and amenities. Sea views or mountain views are common among the suite categories.
Rooms & Suites
The hotel has over 100 rooms and around 47 suites. The room types vary from standard rooms to premium sea-view suites and a Royal Suite. The Royal Suite is particularly spacious with both indoor and outdoor living areas, large terrace, significant luxury detailing, top-floor position, uninterrupted sea views, luxurious marble bathrooms, master bedroom, private dining spaces, etc. Many rooms offer “Club benefits,” including access to The Club Lounge.
Dining & Food
There are several dining options:
• An Italian-style restaurant, serving authentic Italian fare.
• Restaurants offering international cuisine, crafted with regional touches.
• Lounges and bars, including a patisserie / cake shop for sweets and lighter fare, afternoon tea etc.
Wellness & Facilities
Wellness is a big part of the experience:
• A spa that fuses ancient philosophies with local healing traditions. There is a hammam, steam rooms, saunas, and treatment rooms.
• An outdoor pool, beach access, fitness centre.
• Exclusive spaces for guests staying in certain room categories (Club Rooms, Suites) such as The Club Lounge, where you have perks like private breakfasts, evening canapés, etc.
Experience & What Makes It Stand Out
What makes Mandarin Oriental, Muscat special is how it balances heritage and modern luxury. It avoids heavy opulence for its own sake in favour of design touches that feel rooted in Oman. The service is positioned as heartfelt and generous. Guests often highlight the views, whether of sea, sky, or mountains, and the sense of calm despite being in the city. Also, the public beach and promenade in front of it adds a seaside atmosphere.
